Assignment 6: The Importance of Work Ethic

As an employ having a great work ethic is extremely important to not only be successful through out your career, but to have a stable career. Work ethic can be defined as, "being personally accountable and responsible for the work that one does and is based on a belief that work have intrinsic value" (workethic). Characteristics that distinguish a person with an amazing work ethic are having great interpersonal skills, having initiative,and being dependable.

Effective interpersonal skills means a worker not only can work efficiently within a group of co-workers, but can also communicate with them. people that behold this gift also interact well with customers and clients which in return means more success for the company. Supervisors enjoy the presence of these type of employees as not only do they bring success, but also a positive atmosphere to the work environment. This is an excellent characteristic to have as it is also beneficial to your personal relationships.

Having initiative means to have the mentality of knowing when to take action without being asked or told to do so. These people do not need to be told to complete a task by said deadline, instead they instantly by themselves know to do so. They also tend to have a sense of leadership as they can see when a task needs to be done or should be done and can encourage co-workers around to get on top of things. Employers tend to love these type of workers as they are very helpful as they tend to not only get done their task without being asked, but are a step ahead. Having initiative is a characteristic that distinguish entrepreneurs like Bill Gates from the rest of the competitors in his field.

Being dependable effects all aspects of your life whether it is your personal relationships or professional relationships. In a professional environment is you are not dependable you are hindering the success of the company. For instance, if an employ is always missing deadlines then they are hindering the reputation of the company and losing money for the company. People do not enjoy having to do not only their work, but also the work of others. Lacking this characteristic can cause an employ his or her job as it is one of the most important characteristics of the three to employers. In your personal life relationships are based on trust, and if you are not dependable then people are unable to place trust on you.

What I was able to observe from this assignment this week is that the characteristics that help make you success in your life also do the same for your personal career. To learn the most from your teacher you have to have a strong relationships. To be able to ask a question, you have to feel comfortable to do so, and how do you feel comfortable to do so without having a relationship. Having a strong work ethic shows people that their time and efforts will be well invested into you. They need to know that if they place their time and efforts into you they can depend on you to use them and create a positive outcome. Therefore, if build a relationship with my co-workers at my mentorship, take initiative to get involved, and let them know I can be depended on for even the smallest of task, then and only then will I develop a sucessful experience in my mentorship.
