Knowing your mentor:

This document begins with four key hints I personally feel not only apply to meeting your mentor, but just meeting anyone new in your life. These key hints include: smiling, making eye contact, firm hand shake, and saying your name. Without a smile people do not feel like you're open to getting to know them or anyone. Keeping eye contact shows respect and interest. Two things that are very important when talking to your mentor. If you want someone to know who you are you have to tell them your name. It is the first step at building a relationship with anyone. A relationship is definitely something you want to build with your mentor.

After introducing yourself and thanking your mentor for giving you this opportunity you want to start to get to know them. therefore plan ahead some conversation starters "how did you choose this career?". Vice versa be prepared to answer some questions like "What are your goals after college?"

While having a conversation with your mentor make sure to focus on yourself and your qualities. Show your eagerness to work and learn.

First impressions:

First impressions begin the moment you walk in the door. How you dress, your body expressions and attitude factor into what people think of you. Say hello, dress professional, and be positive. You should also be concision of office ethics do not get caught in office gossip instead focus on asking questions that enable you to start getting to understand your new mentor ship. You should also make sure to take initiative like completing task that no one has been able to get around to.

Aspirations:

  • What do you envision gaining from your mentorship?

  • I envision gaining experience and knowledge from my mentor ship. I also see myself building relationships with people from the medical field.

  • What actions will you take to ensure you get the most from your experiences?

  • Actions I will take to ensure I get the most from my experience is to take initiative, initiative, and initiative. Nothing in this world is handed to anyone. Thus, my goal is to end the year knowing I gave my all to this mentor ship to the point where I am positive I gained all I could from this opportunity. To make sure I leave my mentor with eagerness to mentor another student and to continue sharing their knowledge. To leave my mentor ship wiser and a more rounded person.

  • How is this preparing you for the future?

A textbook can give you knowledge, but it cannot expose you to real life experiences. Real life experiences is how my mentor ship is preparing me for my future. My mentor ship is going to show me what it really is like to work in this part of the medical field.
